Social Media and Me
As a business we are on twitter, facebook, linkedin and we try and blog a little bit. From a business point of view we are doing okay on our SEO. This year we have probably been overtaken by one of our competitors but in my opinion this has only been done by aggressive advertising. I don’t think this has cost us business.
This last month I have been out of commission after an operation, so I have launched myself into twitter. I haven’t been doing anything different than most of you, following a few celebrities, tweeting them, delighted if I get an answer. Struck up a few twendships, went as a far to book a restaurant table through twitter and subsequently enjoyed a wonderful meal and night and tweeted about it. That whole experience was very surreal as it felt like I was staying in a friend’s house rather than a hotel, felt as if I should have made the bed and cleaned the floor on the way out.
What have my experiences meant to me? It has made me even more determined to keep my social media activity lighter, and not an aggressive advertising policy. Giving customers the chance to get to know a bit more about me and my staff before they commit to being customers. Unfortunately some part of it has to be to remind google that we exist and what we do.
I have also realised that there is a reason twitter is separate from Facebook and have deactivated the link. Its not that I’m hiding any information on Facebook but to me facebook is about people you know and twitter is more about people you are yet to know. What’s your opinion?
Thanks for reading
